Edible CAM: Opportunities for securing biodiversity and land restoration.
An international online symposium jointly hosted by our Training Centre and Australian Vanilla Plantation (AVP).
April 15, 2025, 7am - 10.30am AEST (Sydney time)
CAM plants (like vanilla) use a unique type of photosynthesis that helps them thrive in dry climates by conserving water—making them powerful allies for sustainable agriculture and land restoration.
This symposium explores CAM from all angles—from vanilla cultivation and production to cutting-edge science in photosynthesis, plant phenotypes, and other areas. It will explore the future potential of CAM crops for both scientific innovation and industry development.
Sessions include:
7am – CAM: The key to success in Vanilla
7:30am – CAM Photosynthesis
7:55am – CAM in an Australian Production Context
8:30 am – CAM Engineering
8:55am – CAM Phenotypes
9:20am – CAM Rubisco diversity
9:45am – C3 and CAM photosynthesis in two iconic succulent members of the Aizoaceae, Lithops and Fenestraria
