Six early career researcher positions will be established during 2025.

These positions will focus on vertical farming, robotics, seeds, data, and other crucial areas for the horticulture industry.

Appointees will have the opportunity to be part of the next generation of protected cropping growers, food practitioners, plant scientists, corporate leaders, and educators.

Early career researchers within the Centre will have opportunities to apply for seed grants to pursue high-potential projects in addition to their normal work.

These will foster additional learning, important strategic research, and industry relationships.

The Centre will support a champion project of a research student or early career researcher that shows promise for conversion into an SME.

The project will be determined with the support of Cicada, a successful Sydney-based tech incubator, who will also run an innovation and commercialisation workshop as part of our Centre’s training activities.

We’re planning an exciting range of Masterclasses and Workshops for growers and horticulture industry stakeholders that assist with advancing innovation and sustainable practices in horticulture.

These will focus on 3 key themes:

1. Biology in Horticulture: Building foundational knowledge in horticulture science for improved practices.

2. Agri-Tech Applications: Highlighting modern technology solutions to increase efficiency and precision in horticultural processes.

3. Sustainable Horticulture - Focusing on low-carbon, energy-efficient cropping techniques that support sustainability.
